Big Patch P.M. Church

County Hwy 'D', south of Platteville

Sunday Morning
9:00am Worship
10:00am Sunday School

A little over five miles south of Platteville is the tiny community of "Big Patch". The name comes from the discovery of a deposit (patch) of lead ore in the area decades ago. The mining industry has ceased, but this Primitive Methodist Church that has ministered to this community since the mid-1800's is still conducting services every Sunday morning. This church is part of the denomination known as the The Primitive Methodist Church.

This name was extracted from a statement made by Methodism's founder, John Wesley, when he was encouraging his followers in England to remain faithful to his original teachings. In more recent years, by an arrangement known as "circuit", Pastor Glendenning of Westview Methodist Church, also serves the faithful in this country setting.

One of the special features of this congregation is a Christmas Eve celebration that always packs the building with relatives and friends whose spiritual heritage has been affected by the outreach of this evangelical voice.
